The Gorebridge Circular Walk (GCW) is a project lead by Gorebridge and District Environment Group (GADEG). The Trust is involved in a supporting role, mainly assisting in applications for funding.
GCW provides the local community with opportunities to understand and appreciate their local heritage and environment whilst also providing excellent physical exercise.
The walk is approximately 7.5 miles long but includes two linking paths providing ‘short cuts’ into a series of shorter routes.
GCW passes through and links numerous areas of cultural, historical and environmental interest such as Newbyres Castle, Scotland’s first gunpowder mill and the Gore Glen.
In addition, GCW connects with other recognised walks such as the Blinkbonny Way, the Vogrie Walk and the proposed South Esk Way.
The Trust secured a grant from HERF towards the costs of purchasing kissing gates for the walk, which were installed in April 2008. This is the last part of the project, but the walk will require ongoing maintenance over the years.
