Welcome to Gorebridge Community Website where you will find a wealth of information on Gorebridge and the surrounding district including local news, events, business, history and tourist information.
Gorebridge is an old mining town situated approximately 10 miles South East of Edinburgh in Midlothian. The village is next to the A7 Tourist Route to Edinburgh and is surrounded by outstanding countryside perfect for country walks and visits.
Gorebridge gets its name from the river "Gore" of which a Bridge was once over. The village has a strong industrial history, including the first Gunpowder works in Scotland and was a popular tourist during the Nineteenth Century with visitors from Edinburgh taking the train for weekends trips.
The opening of the Scottish Borders railway, which will call at Gorebridge will provide potential visitors with easier access to visit the town and enjoy the fantastic surrounding walks in the District’s countryside.
Gorebridge has a strong community network with many community groups involved in a variety of activities. Gorebridge Community Development Trust (GCDT) is one of the core partners in this community network and has established this website as a facility to improve the communication between these groups, local residents and visitors to the area.
Whether you live locally, or would like to visit Gorebridge we hope these pages will inspire you to become involved in local events and activities, raising the awareness of Gorebridge and encourage you to re-visit the village and website.
