There is a ruin of a mid-16th Century tower located behind the main public car parks in Gorebridge, next to the Main Street. Gorebridge Community Development Trust is looking to develop this land as one of their projects to landscape it, making more accessible for the local population and residents.
Newbyres Castle is a 16th Century castle built by Borthwick of Glengelt on land bought from the Abbey of Newbattle. It was later sold to the Dundas family at Arniston House who used it as a dower house. Unfortunately it want unused for some time and fell into a real state of disrepair, leading to it being pulled down for safety reasons. All that remains now is the remnants of one corner of a wall and some loose masonry as many of the stones were stolen and used in the surrounding houses.
