Walking In and Around Gorebridge

Walking In and Around Gorebridge

Walkers in Gorebridge and the surrounding district are spoilt for choice. The town centre provides a good variety of amenities for any visitor, and a short walk in any direction will take you in to stunning countryside with a wealth of paths along rivers, in woodlands and connecting villages and towns. The terrain of the surrounding is suitable for all walkers, however, the views of the countryside and Edinburgh are well worth a steep climb for.

GCDT has worked in partnership with Gorebridge and District Environmental Group (GADEG) to develop a 7.5 mile circular walk around Gorebridge. This path network links in with connections to Mayfield, the South Esk Way and Dalkeith. Download the PDF of the walk here or collect a leaflet from the Trust’s offices or one of the local shops.

Gore Glen is currently undergoing a face lift with new planting of trees, development of existing path networks and improved facilities thanks to a successful Woodlands In and Around Towns Challenge Funding from the Forestry Commission. This will provide an excellent facility for the local community and visitors. This 44 hectare glen was the site of the first gunpowder mill in Scotland, and was once the centre of a thriving coal mining community. Now, these tree clad, man-made hills command fine views over Midlothian and beyond. More information can be found here.

Vogrie Country Park is located four miles out of Gorebridge. Vogrie Country Park retains much of it’s character as a Victorian parkland estate, with sweeping carriage drives, beautifully landscaped vistas, an original walled garden and the baronial styled Vogrie House. The park has over 4 miles of beautiful woodland walks. More information can be found here.
