http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/pathhead/crichtoncastle/index.html

Crichton Castle was among a number of properties bestowed in 1488 by James IV on the Earl of Bothwell. Over the following century Crichton was largely by-passed by the main flow of Scottish history, though it was successfully besieged by Protestant Lords in 1559 after the James Hepburn, 4th Earl of Bothwell intercepted 4000 English crowns sent by Queen Elizabeth to help fund the Protestant cause. The 4th Earl of Bothwell is better known for becoming Mary Queen of Scot's third husband in May 1567, precipitating her fall from grace and her abdication. For more information visit Crichton Castle website.

Vogrie Country Park
Vogrie Country Park is located four miles out of Gorebridge. Vogrie Country Park retains much of it’s character as a Victorian parkland estate, with sweeping carriage drives, beautifully landscaped vistas, an original walled garden and the baronial styled Vogrie House. The park has over 4 miles of beautiful woodland walks. More information can be found here.

Gore Glen
Gore Glen is currently undergoing a face lift with new planting of trees, development of existing path networks and improved facilities thanks to a successful Woodlands In and Around Towns Challenge Funding from the Forestry Commission. This will provide an excellent facility for the local community and visitors. This 44 hectare glen was the site of the first gunpowder mill in Scotland, and was once the centre of a thriving coal mining community. Now, these tree clad, man-made hills command fine views over Midlothian and beyond. More information can be found here.
