David Hamilton - MP Midlothian

David a former coalminer, who also had various positions within Midlothian Council, Craigmillar Festival Society, Craigmillar Opportunities Trust, was elected as a councillor in 1995 then went onto be elected MP for Midlothian in 2001 – 2005. Then re-elected in 2005 – for the new constituency which now includes Penicuik.

 

Christine Graham - MSP Midlothian South Tweedale & Lauderdale

Christine worked as a teacher and later qualified as a solicitor and practiced family law.  Christine entered politics after being an unpaid evening volunteer for the Citizen’s Advice Bureau - considering things need to change. Christine was first elected to the Scottish Parliament in 1999 and on May 5th 2011 you elected Christine Grahame as the MSP for the new constituency of Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale.

 

Colin Beattie MSP - Midlothian North & Musselburgh

Colin previously worked as a banker and was SNP group leader for Midlothian Council. Colin is also the current serving SNP National Treasurer. He won the newly-created seat from Labour in the 2011 Scottish Parliament election with a majority of just under 3000 votes to claim the newly-created constituency of Midlothian North and Musselburgh.

 

​Jim Muirhead - Local Councillor Midlothian South, Ward 6 (Labour)


Jim was born and raised in Gorebridge and has represented the Gorebridge area as a councillor since 2003.  He has held a number of positions in the Council, including Cabinet member for Education and Deputy Leader of the Council.  He is currently Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Safety.  Jim is also chair and a founder of the Birkenside Community partnership which organises the popular Birkenside Annual Fun Day.  Away from politics Jim develops software and was for many years an employee of Ferranti in Edinburgh.

 

Wilma Chalmers - Local Councillor Midlothian South, Ward 6 (Labour)

Wilma is an ex-officio Justice of the Peace. Wilma has qualifications in Business Information Management, Medical Terminology and Administration.  Within the Council, she chairs the General Purposes (including chair of the various associated sub-committees eg  Gourlaw, Blinkbonny, Oxenfoord etc) and Labour Group Committees, and is a member of the Environmental Protection, Performance Review, Standards and Planning Committees; as well as the Full Council.
