Gorebridge and District Local History Society

The Gorebridge and District Historical Society were founded in 1977. In the early 1980s it was decided that the Society should produce a Year Book of local stories and the first ‘Gorebridge Yesterdays’ Magazine was published.

Several people contributed articles including the late Alasdair Anderson a prolific writer on the history of Gorebridge. Gorebridge Yesterdays copies’ are held in the Gorebridge library.

The History Society has a treasure of photos, and memorabilia documenting the history of Gorebridge. These are currently cared for by Mrs Joan Simpson in her house in Hunterfield Road. Joan’s ambition is to see a heritage centre or room where these can be permanently stored  and displayed. This must be a priority project for the future.

Meanwhile the Society meets for talks from a variety of speakers on the last Tuesday of the month in the Gorebridge Library. New members are very welcome.
