How to register with the practice
New patients are always welcome at the practice and you will be asked to complete a registration form. It is also helpful if you can provide your Health Board medical card. In addition to a completed registration form, you will be asked to provide 2 separate forms of identification, one which must provide proof of address. All newly registered patients will be invited to attend the practice for a new patient check-up/assessment which will usually be conducted by our nursing staff. It is preferable if you register with the practice as soon as you move to the area rather than waiting until you are ill. This means that we can try and get your medical records before you actually attend the surgery. You may wish to see a particular doctor and if so, the reception staff will try to give an appointment with your chosen doctor, however please bear in mind that due to workloads and annual leave this may not be possible.
Surgery Opening Times
The practice is open from 8.30am – 6.00pm, Monday to Friday.
We also offer some extended surgeries throughout the month e.g. early mornings, late evenings and Saturday mornings.
If you require medical treatment after the surgery is closed, please contact NHS 24 on 08454 24 24 24.
Please note if your condition is life threatening, you should dial 999 and ask for the ambulance service.
Appointments
The practice is working hard to deliver the most appropriate number of appointments throughout the week. We will constantly review the appointments system to ensure we are working towards the best service we can provide with the level of resources available to us. Patient’s thoughts and feedback on where improvements can be made will always be welcome.
Our present system delivers an open style surgery on a Monday morning, however, rather than patients turning up on the day, we would ask that you call us in advance and our reception staff will allocate you a timeslot for that morning. The reason for this is to help ensure patients are not kept waiting for too long a period. You will not be allocated to a specific GP on a Monday morning as the GPs will work their way through the list of patients waiting to be seen. It’s hoped that by doing this, the waiting times will be reduced (as a GP finishes with one patient, they will select the next patient on the list).
All of our other appointments e.g. Monday afternoon, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday are pre-bookable appointments and can be reserved by contacting our reception staff. In addition to the routine appointments offered throughout the week, the GPs do also provide some early morning, late evening and Saturday appointments. Please speak to reception staff for details of when these surgeries are available. As well as face-to-face consultations, we do provide some telephone consultations with our GPs. This type of appointment can prove very beneficial for patients and GPs e.g. if the consultation is to discuss results of a blood test or if the patient cannot attend the surgery for any reason.
We also provide two emergency clinics each day (11:15am and 16:30pm). These clinics are for patients that have a condition which they feel is a medical emergency and should not be used for a routine illness e.g. coughs or colds. Please contact reception if you feel that you have a condition which requires attention that day.
Home Visits
Please try to come to the surgery if you can. Home visits take the doctors a great deal more time than surgery consultations and sometimes full examinations and tests cannot be done in the home. A home visit should only be requested if someone is too ill to get to the surgery. Please phone reception staff before 10:30am.
Please note - if your condition is life threatening, you should call 999 and ask for the ambulance service.
